What is a function?


Lesson 4: A function is a reason why we communicate. Every time we speak or write, we do so for a purpose or function. Here are some examples of functions:

What is phonology?


Lesson 3: Phonology is the study the sound features used in a language to communicate meaning. In English these features include phonemes, word stress, sentence stress and intonation.


What is Lexis?


Lexis is individual words or sets of words, i.e. vocabulary items, that have a specific meaning, for example. tree,get up,first of.
